“Reiki” as comes from two Japanese words:
Rei, meaning Universal Life and Ki meaning Energy.
Reiki is typically used in the US as an energy healing method that brings the recipient into a deep state of relaxation so their body can work on healing itself at the cellular level. It is a complementary therapy that can support other techniques for physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing. Reiki is a non-religious practice that can be accessed by any person. Reiki is compatible with any and all spiritual beliefs.
Oxford Dictionary defines Reiki as:
“A healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being.”
“Reiki” is much more than the spiritual and energetic healing system we know it as today.
Reiki is the energy of all consciousness. It is source energy – that vital force that animates all things: Scientists do not know how the mammalian heart starts beating in the womb; it just begins, due to some life force – the name of which humans have yet to agree on a definition. When you think of Reiki, know that it is this pure, light energy of all things.
"By analyzing the Reiki given to Dr. Usui, we can discover four unique qualities that identify the class of healing techniques appropriately called Reiki.
These four qualities of Reiki are:
1. The ability to do Reiki comes from receiving an attunement, rather than developing the ability over time though the use of meditation or other exercises.
2. All Reiki techniques are part of a lineage. This means that the technique has been passed on from teacher to student through an attunement process starting with the one who first channeled the technique.
3. Reiki does not require that one guide the energy with the mind, as it is guided by the higher power and knows where to go and how to act all on its own.
4. Because of this, Reiki can do no harm.
If a healing technique has these four qualities, then it can be considered to be a Reiki technique." -
